A Letter I Should’ve Said Sooner

You don’t have to be perfect.

Not now. Not later. Not ever.

I know how easy it is to feel like every mistake means you messed something up… like one wrong step somehow proves you’re not good enough. Like you always have to do more, be better, try harder just to feel okay.

But you don’t.

You don’t have to have everything figured out.

You don’t have to get it right the first time.

And you don’t have to carry the weight of feeling like you’re never enough.

You already are.

Even when you mess up.

Even when things don’t go how you planned.

Even when you feel like you’re behind.

None of that makes you less. It just means you’re learning. It means you’re growing — even when it doesn’t feel like it.

There is something inside of you that matters more than you probably realize.

The way you care.

The way you keep going.

The way you handle things when life feels heavy.

You might not see it yet… but I do.

You are stronger than you think.

Kinder than you give yourself credit for.

And more capable than you feel most days.

I’m sorry I haven’t always been there the way I should have been.

I’m sorry for the moments I wasn’t present, or didn’t show up the way a big brother should.

There are times I wish I could go back and do better.

But even when I’m not around as much as I want to be… I am always here for you.

Always.

I’ve learned something from you — more than you probably realize. From the way you handle things, from the way you keep going, even when it’s hard.

And I truly believe this:

You are going to do something meaningful in your life.

You’re going to help people.

You’re going to change lives.

You’re going to make the world better in ways you probably can’t see yet.

Not because you’re perfect — but because you care.

And when life feels heavy…

When your thoughts start telling you you’re not enough…

When you feel behind or unsure…

Come back and read this.

You are not broken.

You are not behind.

You are not less than anyone else.

You are learning.

You are growing.

You are becoming.

You are a work in progress.

And that’s exactly who you’re supposed to be.

I love you.

I’m proud of you — even on the days you don’t feel proud of yourself.

Always your brother,
